North Face ECS Georgia and Wisconsin Registration Giveaway!

Sunday, August 25, 2013

Updated 9/11/2013 - Congratulations to GeorgiaPeach2074 on winning back your registration fee for the Georgia event!  Kick some butt in your trail half marathon!

In late July, I wrote about about a partnership with the North Face Endurance Challenge Series where I received a free entry to the San Francisco event in return for promoting their series, specifically the Georgia and Wisconsin races.  I detailed a few of the benefits for you guys including:

Now as part of the partnership, there are some perks for you guys!
  • Free registration code (Qty: 1) - I get to give away a registration code to a follower who posts pictures via Instragram using the race hashtag (i.e #ECSWisconsin or #ECSGeorgia) of their training leading up to a race, either Wisconsin or Georgia.  The details will be in a separate post (August 10th).
  • 15% registration discount (Qty: UNLIMITED!) - Want a discount on your race entry to either the Wisconsin on Georgia North Face ECS race?  Well look no further, enter the promo code:BSHER13 case sensitive at registration, and you'll receive 15% off!
  • Interview with a North Face Athlete -  You might be saying to yourself, "how does that benefit me?" and I know how much you guys love to hear what I have to say but sometimes it's good to mix it up, so I hope to do a separate post race blog about the interview experience.
  • Awesome pre and post race blog entries! Well, I suppose you would probably get these regardless of whether or not there was a partnership.
Well...I didn't exactly make August 10th but I'm posting this today which will give everyone 20 days including today.  The contest will run from today Sunday August 25 through Friday September 13th. The details of what is required are below.

Up for grabs: A refund of your registration cost (i.e. you must be registered to participate) to either the Wisconsin or Georgia ECS event.

How it works:

  • Post training photos on Instagram with the hashtag of your event (i.e. either #ECSWisconsin or #ECSGeorgia ) AND the hashtag #MyDailyGroundECS so that I can track posts.  If there is a tie between two folks at the end I'll break the tie with user who has the most likes on one final photo.
  • I'll give you a bonus entry if you retweet this blog post and use the hashtag #MyDailyGroundECS.

I will also give you a bonus entry if you enter this photo contest via Facebook to run with Dean Karnazes!  I'll take your word on this one and you can let me know via Twitter (again using the #MyDailyGroundECS hashtag and an @rbsherfy mention) or a comment on this post.  Hurry! The entry period ends August 24!

That's it - pretty simple!

Ready. Set. GO!

Announcing a Blog Partnership for the 2014 Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon

Friday, August 9, 2013

It's been a whirlwind few weeks around these parts.  There are officially five (class)days left of the second summer session and I can confidently say I've never been more ready for a "semester" to end than I have these past 5 weeks.  Unfortunately my running has taken a back seat during this second summer session thanks to a very difficult advanced calculus course, which is thankfully the LAST math class I have to take to be a "highly-qualified" licensed Virginia mathematics teacher.

This morning, I received the awesome news that I was selected as an Official Blogger for the 2014 Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon!  I came across the following tweet in early July and favorited it to remind myself to come back and fill out the application.

The application was pretty straight forward and included questions like "Have you run the Blue Ridge Marathon before?" and "What will your blog offer for race participants?" and my favorite question "What running means to you? (100 words or less)."  I snuck in just under the limit after cutting a bit from an excerpt of paper I wrote this spring:
Running, in the purest definition of the word, is freedom.  Freedom from relationships, bills, and obligations; running is freedom from the tedium of life.  Running is where stress goes to die and when the imagination has recess.  Running is solitude, reflection, friendship, and camaraderie.  Running is man in his most primitive form.  Many consider it to be the most basic progression of human development - some call it evolutionary.  For me, running is cheap therapy and time well invested in my physical and mental health.  It has been my sanctuary, foundation, passion, and at times my obsession.

This race has been on my radar and "must-do race list" for the past couple years but hadn't quite worked out.  I remember reading this article on Blue Ridge Outdoors, which caught my attention because the guy was wearing a Virginia Tech hat, and thought it was neat that there was a rivalry between the Blue Ridge Marathon and Mt. Lemmon in Arizona that also claims the title of "America's Toughest Road Marathon."  Enough of a rivalry that the race organizers of each marathon offered entry into the others marathon for top placing individuals to let the participants decide which race was "America's Toughest Road Marathon."

As an Official Blogger or the Blue Ridge Marathon there are some perks for you guys!  The post on the Blue Ridge Marathon website that had the link for the application detailed the following:
